Dorotea Santos Garcia passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Monday, July 5 at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Dorotea was born August 5, 1918 in Villaldama, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Jesus and Virginia Santos. She married Mr. Horacio Garcia on October 23, 1934 in Laredo, Texas. They then moved to Chicago to raise their family. In 1957, they moved to Waco to run Garcia's Grocery, at 925 Houston. After retiring from the grocery business, she worked at Sam's Wholesale Club for ten years as a demo lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Horacio; brother, Manuel Santos; sister, Ida Compean; brothers in law, Albert and Ernest Medina; sister in law, Adelita Granado; and nephew, Daniel Dominguez.
Survivors include her daughter, Sonia Banda and husband, Juan of Waco; her son, Anthony Garcia and wife Carol of Glendale, Az.; six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, seventeen great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ruben Banda, Ricardo Banda, Ricardo Banda, Jr., Juan A. Banda, Juan A. Banda, Jr., Jose Banda, Julian Banda, and Felipe Pablo. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Camacho, Roberto Magana and Joe Garcia.
Dorotea will be loved and missed always by her family and friends. Our thanks go to all who assisted in her care at Wesley Woods Alzheimer's Care Center.
