God is good! A favorite saying of Dorothy Agnes Davidson Buchanan, born April 25, 1922 and died May 19, 2015. Visitation will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. in Waco from 10 a.m.-12 noon, followed by a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery at 12:30 on Friday. There will be a memorial service held at Parkway Baptist Church in College Station at 10:00 on Saturday. Your prayers are welcome.
Dorothy was one of five children from Edge, Texas. In her younger years, Agnes was a rodeo queen, riding alongside her Parade Marshall husband and waving to the crowds. At age 60, she graduated with a degree allowing her to work as a caregiver through Providence Hospital. She retired at age 80.
To entertain family brought great joy to Agnes who was an avid reader; reading cookbooks was a favorite past time and she would try new recipes on family and friends. Aunt Aggie was well loved by her many nieces and nephews and adored by her surviving sisters, Mary Ruth Patranella and Marjorie Morris.
She was a member at Parkway Baptist Church in College Station and loved reading her Sunday School lesson each day long after she was able to attend services. Agnes had a quick wit and loved a good joke. How wonderful that there will be no pain to dull her joy in her heavenly home. Some of her favorite "people" were her pets, the latest being Trixie, a rescue pup.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Buchanan and son, of the same name fondly known as Buck. Other family awaiting her in Heaven include her father and mother, Robert E. Lee and Sarah Emma Davidson.
She leaves behind her devoted and loving son, John David Buchanan and his wife Carlene, of Waco, TX and their children Dyana Baker, Gena Hunter and Carla Sykora and families. Her daughter, Rebecca Buchanan Carroll and her husband Jeff, along with their children, Lucas and Brittany of Charlotte, NC, who rejoice that while she is absent from the body, she is present with the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, we would ask donations be made to Fuzzy Friends or your favorite rescue organization.
In her final days, Agnes was blessed by the loving ministrations of the staff at St. Catherine's and Providence Hospice. They allowed her peace in her journey heavenward. We are forever grateful.
