Dorothy Ann Holcomb Breedlove, 81, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Dorothy was surrounded by her friends and family as she took her last breath, and Jesus gave her a ride on his white horse as promised in Rev. 19:14. Visitation will be 2 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, with the service at 2:30 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, with Lynda McGee officiating. A private burial will be held later. Everyone is urged to wear purple to honor Dorothy.
Dorothy was born March 27, 1935 in Dangerfield, TX to Henry Austin and Lillian Opal Grissom. On May 5, 1950, she married Virgil Holcomb in Midland, TX. Dorothy worked as an office manager at Binswanger Glass and retired after 25 years of service. She was a resident of Waco for many years, residing at Meadowlands Terrace, Lakeshore Estates, and Brookdale Lakeshore Senior Living. The staff and residents there loved her, calling her “an Ambassador”, because she welcomed everyone and made certain they felt included. She was known for giving people a hard time, and would often hear the words “here comes trouble!” from those around her. Dorothy was a treasure, helping many of her friends at the end of their lives. She touched so many and “Breedlove”, as she was often called, will be deeply missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 45 years, Virgil Holcomb; husband of two years, George Breedlove; four brothers, LaVern, Hoyt, Hank, and A.L.; and two sisters, Evelyn and Marie.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Stephens; son, Gary Holcomb and wife, Teresa; grandchildren, Chris Stampflin, Amber Stephens, Randy Stephens, Tyler Holcomb and wife, Kristina, Tanner Holcomb, Tiffany Ward and husband, Brandon; great-granchildren, Taylor Mynar, Haviyn Ward, Talia Holcomb, Tessa Holcomb, Gunner Ward and Dax Ward, due in May.
The family gives a special thanks to Southern Care Hospice as they gave heart and soul to Dorothy.
