January 28, 1929- November 5, 2023
Dorothy went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 5th surrounded by family.
Dorothy was born to Simon and Mary Humber in Albany, TX on January 28, 1929, in the family farmhouse during a snowstorm. Her family moved to Brownwood, TX when she was in the sixth grade.
She finished high school at 16 and went on to graduate from Howard Payne University in Brownwood
with her BBA. Soon after graduation, she left for San Antonio to work as an assistant budget officer at
Lackland Air Force Base.
She met the Love of her Life, Bruce Neatherlin, at Baptist Temple Church in San Antonio, TX. Bruce and
Dorothy were married January 1953, a marriage that lasted 69 years until Bruce’s death in July of 2022.
To this union were born Jacquelin Sue and Curtis Lee Neatherlin.
Dorothy was a wonderful Daughter, Wife, Sister, Mother, Foster Mother, Aunt, Nana and Friend. She
and Bruce were members of Lake Shore Baptist Church for 50 years and DaySpring Baptist for the last 8
years.
After the kids were grown, Dorothy cared for several people from Lake Shore and would drive them to
doctor appointments as far away as Plano and Houston. She delivered Meals On Wheels, would take and pick up kids from school, and deliver groceries to her friends. Dorothy was always a huge part of all our lives! She loved and cared so much for her family that when her sister Joanne needed help, Dorothy and Bruce sold their home and moved into Stilwell Retirement Residence so she could care for her. She loved living at Stilwell, she had many friends and adored the staff!
Dorothy was a friendly, kind and compassionate Christian Woman, that would give you the shirt off her back. She will be remembered for her very active life, being feisty, getting things done, her framed puzzles and not being able to sit still!
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Simon Humber; two sisters, Mary Dorrow
and Joanne Wauson; brother, Glen Humber; two children, Jacque Neatherlin and Curtis
Neatherlin; and her husband, Bruce.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Alicia and her husband, George Freibott, and their boys Kyle, Logan, Dylan, Mason and Justin; grandson, Matt Neatherlin and his daughter, Maven; cousin, Alice Lively; and her nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held December 2nd 10:00am at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 South 5th St. Waco, TX 76706
