Dorothy Summey, 87, of Waco, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Dorothy was born October 16, 1922 in Waco and married Leslie T. Summey on April 14, 1940. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards with friends, and fishing with her loving husband. Dorothy was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, and she was proud to be a part of the Waco Fire Department family where her husband was a member of the fire department and fire chief for 41 years. Dorothy will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Van Buren Combs and Lydia DeMaria.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie T. Summey; daughter, Beverly Gritter and husband, Kenneth; son, Les Summey and wife, Joan; grandchildren, Leslee Fletcher LaPolla and husband, Dominic, Veronica Warren and husband, Steve, Ty Summey and wife, Heather, and Stacy Grabenstein and husband, Jason; great grandchildren, Keri, Tyler, Austin, Dylan, Eli, and Giana; brother, Earl Combs; and several nieces and nephews.
The family especially thanks the Bentley House and Blue Bonnet Hospice for taking loving care of our wife and mother.
