Douglas Hugh Fenske

Douglas Hugh Fenske passed away November 30 after a brief illness. He was a member of the China Spring United Methodist Church. A private family celebration of his life will be held Dec. 6.

This precious father, grandfather, and great grandfather, loved and was very proud of his family. He was born In Pontiac Michigan to Harry and Hazel Fenske. Early in childhood he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he had a childhood full of adventures while fishing and sailing.

Major Douglas Fenske very proudly served in the United States Marine Corp as a pilot in the Pacific during WWII. After the war was over he was a reservist flying instructor in Jacksonville, Florida.

He receive a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Tech School of Mines and Technology. He was employed by International Minerals and Chemical Corporation in Florida and later by Dresser Industries which brought him and his family to Texas. He earned several patents for developing technology used by these companies.

He loved golf, played several times a week, and never missed his 7:30 am tee off time. He always walked, did not use a cart, and played until he was 93 years old. He loved fishing, every kind of gardening, animals, collecting rocks, and observing wildlife with binoculars or a camera. His favorite pastimes these last few years were watching and recording old movies, playing rummy, and drinking Dr. Pepper. He was the "original" recycler, composter, and rain water harvester.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Fenske, beloved daughter, Carol Fenske, and sister Bonnie Webb.

He is survived by immediate family, daughter Jeanette Kelly and husband, Tom, grandchildren Douglas Clarkson Cornwell and wife Michelle Andrews, Charles Cornwell and wife, Holly, great grandchildren, Cuinn, Kait, Ruby, and Theo Cornwell, and Christopher Starnes. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren from love, Kevin Kelly and wife Amie, Patrick Kelly and wife Becky, Patricia Judith, Canon, and Charis Kelly.

The family thanks personal care giver, Felix Ngantcha, and all the staff and caregivers at Wesley Woods Care Center for their loving care through this journey.

He lived and loved his life well!
