Earl Conrad Hancock
April 27, 1928 - June 4, 2012

Earl Hancock, 84, has changed his address. He will be in heaven with his family and friends. Celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 8, at First Methodist Church, 411 Coleman Street, Marlin, with Rev. Jimmy Phillips officiating. Graveside services at the Stranger Cemetery will be conducted by the U. S. Navy. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Earl was the oldest of four, born to Alta Lela and Earl Hancock, Sr. He attended schools at Odds, Marlin High School, and Southwestern University where he had a football scholarship and was also a Phi Delta Theta. He joined the Navy March 1946 and was stationed on Saipan until his honorable discharge February 1948. He was employed in Wyoming until his return to Marlin. There he met and married his wife of 58 years, Patricia Havekost, of Groesbeck, in July 1954. They resided in Marlin for a short period and then moved to Houston. Houston was their home for 17 years until they moved "home" to Woodway in 1972. Pat was employed by the VA and Earl was in the insurance business. They have been members of the Woodway First Methodist Church, from 1972 to the present.

Earl retired in 1990 and enjoyed many activities with his children Jana and David, and wife, Pat, as well as his two granddaughters, Becky (Toadstool), and Katy (Mushroom).

He also loved "putzing" in his workshop at home. Some of the highlights in his life are his trip to Washington D. C. and the WWII Memorial on the Honor Flight, and his visit to the Pacific War Museum in Fredericksburg, TX. with all his family. There a plaque was dedicated to him and his service to his country. Other joys in his life were watching football and track, keeping in touch with old Phi Delt buddies, and making new friends at the Waco Senior Kiwanis.

Earl will meet his parents, his sister Lela, his best friend Spec Davenport, Phi Delt Big Brother Howard Young, and other friends and family, as he leaves this life.

His memory is cherished by Pat, Jana and Bill Turner of College Station, David E. and Michelle Hancock of Decatur, and his two granddaughters, Becky Turner and Katy Turner. Also surviving is his dear brother, Jerry Sr. Hancock and Mary Hancock of Boerne, and sister, Jo Ann McGuire and Bill McGuire of Marlin, his special cousin Marilyn Duff and family, 9 nieces and 3 nephews and their spouses and children.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Jerry Hancock, Jr., Bannon Hancock, Tye Hancock, and sons of his heart Mike Cadell, William Gorham, and Michael Allsup. Honorary pallbearers are all Phi Delta Theta Brothers, and his friends of the Waco Senior Kiwanis.

Earl would appreciate anyone desiring, to make a charitable donation to the Stranger Cemetery and Church Association, 213 Country Club Drive, Marlin, Texas 76661. Earl served for 10 years as Chairman of this Board.
