Earl Newland

Earl Farque Newland
August 21, 1923 to June 14, 2009

Earl the Pearl Newland, 85, world's greatest crappie fisherman and arm-chair quarterback, bane of exposed brush piles, and terrorizer of editorial pages, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 14, 2009 and personally discuss with Him on how Heaven could be improved!

His family invites friends to a come-and-go Celebration honoring Earl's life from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, June 20, in Harper Hall of Seventh and James Baptist Church.

Earl was a former Assistant Vice-President for Purchasing at Baylor University, and was a 25 year member of the Friday Night Hamburger Club at Kim's Restaurant where he and friends discussed and solved the world's problems.

Earl is survived by his wife, Frances; three children, Diane Collins and husband Larry, of Dallas, Jeanine Brazell and husband Don, of Mansfield, and Philip Earl Newland and wife Cate, of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren; Sisters Peg Kendall and Jan Williams, and a brother, Lee Newland.

Please do not send flowers; rather send memorial donations to Meals on Wheels, Seventh and James Baptist Church, 602 James Avenue, Waco, TX 76706.

Please share a welcomed Memory about Earl on our website by clicking on the GUEST BOOK symbol below.

Dear Friends,

Daddy went to be with Jesus yesterday, Sunday, June 14th, at 2 p.m. He went peacefully and was aware right up until the time he left.

He was a remarkable man and a remarkable Dad, and we were all blessed to have known him. He was a man of high integrity and honesty, and service to others was his lifestyle. Mother is well cared-for at a fantastic Alzheimer's care center in Mansfield close to where Jeanine and Diane live.

One of the things Daddy told us repeatedly was that he did not want a stuffy obituary or stuffy memorial service, so we are honoring his wishes.

On Saturday, June 20, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Harper Hall at Seventh and James Baptist Church, we will have a come-and-go Celebration of his life. We will have a slideshow of pictures of Earl through his life, some of his favorite music, and a couple of his favorite sayings. We will have paper available for anyone who desires to write a brief favorite memory or story about Earl (or you can bring one already typed and printed out) which we will put out on the table for people to read and share Earl the Pearl stories. We will keep all of those stories and put them in albums to give to our children for them and future generations to have.

There is also a website available where you can go and write your favorite story or memory of Earl. Click the GUEST BOOK symbol below to add your welcomed memory.

For those of you who will be unable to attend the Celebration on Saturday, Earl would want you to take a day off from work and go do something you really enjoy doing and think about him. This was one of his favorite sayings and he meant every word.

We rejoiced in Daddy's life and now rejoice that he is with Jesus in glory forever. We pray that each of you would find the same joy in your lives that Earl had.

With gratitude,

Diane, Jeanine, and Philip
