Earlie Wright

Earlie Lue Belcher Wright was born June 27, 1932 to Warren Belcher and Willie Long in Mart, Texas. Earlie was fortunate enough to be loved by two parents: She and her sister were adopted by Grover and Lorean Belcher at a young age. She has always had a strong relationship with God and has been a member of several churches. She graduated from A J Moore High School and later from Paul Quinn College with a Bachelor of Art degree. Later she moved to San Antonio, Texas and began a 25 year career as an English teacher at Edger Allen Poe. Earlie was known as a Good mean teacher who touched and changed the lives of many students, some of which sought her out later in life just to thank her for “being” the difference in their lives. Earlie also volunteered at several hospitals after her move to San Antonio, all while raising her seven children and teaching. She did not believe in limits and made her family, students, friends or really just people in general whom crossed her path believe anything was possible.

She took pride in her big family and always made everyone feel special in their own way. She passed down her pride, strength, and strong will to her children and every generation after. This strong, strict, caring, loving, and fun woman was known as “Granny” to her grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. She believed in enjoying life and invited her family to enjoy it with her. She created “Granny Day”, a weekend of fun that would put a smile on everyone’s face.

After retiring she moved back to Axtell and continued laying the foundation for her family. She bought cows, cleared the land with her children and grandchildren building togetherness through hard work with a vision in mind that will always be remembered and never forgotten. Staying true to her strong relationship with God Earlie found a new church family in New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

She Leaves behind her legacy seven children: Lavella Marie Scott Harrison (husband Charles), Jesse Earl Wright Sr, Wille Dean Wright, Cecil Cedric Wright Sr.(wife Terry), Carol (Lynn) Wright Deams, Marvin Dwayne Wright Sr.(wife Jeanette) Stevie Dale Wright Sr.(wife Ivonne). Twenty two grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, and nine great, great grandchildren, two sisters: Georgia B McLennan and Willie Bea Williams. She also leaves countless nieces, nephews and Family and friends to whom she was known as Aunt Say or Say.

On Tuesday March 22, 2016 Earlie went home to be with the lord. Earlie was preceded in death by her children’s father Lavell Wright, sister Christine Haynes, daughter-in-law Toni Wright, son-in-law Reginald L Deams, granddaughter TaNeshia Wright and several other close family members.
