Edith Estelle Orr Johnson, 93, of McGregor, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 in McGregor. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at College Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at McGregor City Cemetery. Visitation with Mrs. Johnson's family will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the services.

Edith was born April 25, 1917 in McGregor to John Blona Orr and Mary Matilda "Mamie" George Orr. She married James Virgil Johnson, June 13, 1935, who passed away January 8, 2002 after 66 years of marriage. They lived in Leon Junction before moving to McGregor in 1936 where they lived most of their married life. Edith worked at the McGregor Ordnance Plant in the shipping department during World War II. She served as a nursery worker at College Avenue Baptist Church for many years. She sold Avon products from 1950 until 1990. Edith greatly enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Virgil Johnson; two granddaughters, Glenda Ann Evans and Veronica Ann Evans; one great grandson, Bryan Jacob Evans; one brother, Edgar "Buck" Orr; and three sisters, Altha Mae Allbritton, Mildred Modawell and Charlene Dossman.

Edith is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Cox and husband, James and Mary Helen Overton and husband, Fred; five grandchildren, Gwen Cox, Donna Cox Fales and Danny, Vicki Lyn Evans and husband, David, Brenda Kay Hulvey and Michael Charles Brenegar and Robin; eleven great grandchildren, Amy Morgan and husband, Billy, Aaron Gene Garrison and fiancee, Jessica Martinez, Kelly Lynn Garrison and Jonathan, Brent Jeffrey Evans, Colton James Casarez, Carrie Leann Casarez, Courtney Kay Hulvey, Michael Cade Brenegar, Rylie Brenegar, Railey Shoesmith and Marshall Shoesmith; four great great grandchildren, Hailey Marie Morgan, Joshua Ryan Morgan, Aiden James Morgan and Kylie Martinez Koehne; one sister, Jo Burgess and husband, Wilton; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Gene Garrison, Danny Gribble, John Polston, David Evans, Randy Farrar and Billy Michael Eggers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Colton James Casarez, Brent Jeffrey Evans and Gene Garrison.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Texas Home Health Care and Hospice staff, especially, Brandy, for their loving care of Edith during her illness.

In lieu of floral arrangements, you may direct a memorial in Edith's memory to either Texas Home Health Care and Hospice or to the College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor.
