Edna E. Clayton, 86, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Royal Manor Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rosemound Cemetery with Dr. Brian Pendleton officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video of her life will be shown during the visitation.

Edna was born August 31, 1924 in Seville, Ga. to A. H. and Pearl (Simmons) Parkerson. She was received her education in Pitts, Ga., and graduated from the Pitts High School. She married J.C. Clayton, Jr. on July 27, 1945 in Marlin.

During WWII, Edna was a civilian employee of the Pentagon working with top clearance operations. She later worked as a secretary at Remington-Rand Corporation, and for many years, was a secretary at McLennan Community College in Waco. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who had many friends whom she treasured dearly. Edna enjoyed reading, and after retirement, traveling with her husband Jake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.C. in 2000; three sisters, Door Bell Farr, Katherine Smith, and Adoloyd Pursley; and a brother, A.H. Parkerson Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Uptmore of Hewitt and fiancé, Norman Raines; two grandsons, Michael Uptmore and fiancé, Cynthia, and Patrick Uptmore and fiancé, Lindsay; two great-grandchildren, twins Kylan and Clayton Uptmore; four sisters, Marjorie Wallace, Ernestine Winters, Thelma Taylor and Lois Roundtree; brother, C.P. McClain and wife, Maxine, of West, and many nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be W.H. Terry, Norman Raines, Michael Uptmore, and Garlon Terry.



The family of Edna E. Clayton expresses their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of Providence Hospice, especially Lea, Kim, Judy, Dione and Brian. Thank you so much for your kindness to our family during this difficult time. We also would like to thank and express our appreciation to the wonderful staff at Royal Manor for caring for Edna during her long battle with Parkinson Disease.
