Edra Faye House

Edra Faye House, 85, of Waco, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at her residence.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery.
Edra was born June 13, 1924 in McGregor to Erin Atkins Holdbrook Martin and William McKinley Holdbrook. She attended McGregor schools where she was a junior high and varsity cheerleader. Edra married the love of her life, Leon House, Jr. on December 5, 1942 in Waco. They had two children, Candyce House and David Tharpe House. She was a legal secretary for Mickey and Everett O'Dowd until their deaths. Edra was a fourth great granddaughter of Davy Crockett and she donated to the Alamo a lock of his hair and the spoon he had made for his daughter, Alice Ann Tharpe, before he came to Texas. Edra was an avid scratch golfer, and she helped start the Waco Country Club when it opened.
She was precded in death by her parents; husband, Leon House; brother, Billy Mac Holdbrook; her grandson, Matthew David Johnson.
She is survived by her children, Candy House
and David Tharpe House; her sister, Maudie Humphrey; several nieces and nephews.
