Edward R. Smith, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 quietly and painlessly at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rick Guthrie and Merry Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3 to 5 pm Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Ed was born in Roscoe, Texas May 26, 1929 to Joe and Rosy May Bell Smith. He worked for the City of Waco Waste Water Department for 28 years, retiring in 1991. He married Eleanor Vonceil Anderson on November 27, 1969 in Waco.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Ken, Joe and Jasper Smith.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Vonceil Smith; son and wife, William and Betty Stefka of Leroy; son, Keith Stefka of Axtell; grandchildren, David and his wife Lynelle Stefka of Waco, and Braxton Stefka of Axtell; father in-law, John Anderson of Aquilla, and three step-grandchildren and their families. Ed also had three half sisters and families along with one half brother and family, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Green, Wayne Fisher, Paul McCauley, James Plemons, Don Parker, Earl Anderson, and Jerry Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Fisher and John Anderson.
Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice.
