Elizabeth E. (Betty) Woodward, 91, of Waco, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.
Visitation will be 5 - 7pm Friday, Oct. 3, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.
Deacon Greg George will lead the rosary at 6 p.m.
Betty was born March 2, 1923 in Pakala, Kauai, Hawaii. She was Portuguese and lived with her family on a sugarcane plantation. She met the love of her life, Charles "Woody" Woodward, on a trip to Honolulu to see her cousin. They married in 1942. Betty spent most of her married life as the wife of a soldier who served in WWII and the Korean War. They were stationed in California, Illinois, Georgia, Nevada and finally Texas where he was stationed at 12th Air Force in Waco at the time of his death in 1964.
Betty was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church, where she served many years as President of the St. Veronica's circle and saw that the alter had fresh flowers for each celebration. She also was employed for eight years at Fabbre' Jewelers and did pearling for other jewelers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her children, Yvonne Curtis and husband, Alex, Mark Woodward and wife, Gay, Mike Woodward and wife, Marcy, Annette McCauley and husband Jim, Kay Sulak and husband Rick of West, 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made St. Louis Catholic School, Fuzzy Friends, or Providence Hospice.
