Ernest Samuel “Sammy” Fuentes
August 2, 1948 – March 25, 2014

Sammy Fuentes, 65, of Waco, passed away on March 25, 2014 at the home of his brother surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous, hard-fought battle with cancer. A Rosary service followed by visitation will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki officiating. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel. A Memorial Video honoring his life will be shown prior to the service. Burial will follow at Santa Cruz Cemetery.

Sammy was born August 2, 1948 in Waco, Texas to Anastacia and Arturo Fuentes. He graduated from Reicher Catholic High School in 1966 where he was a member of the Cougars two- time high school state champion football team. He lettered in multiple sports and is a member of the Reicher Hall of Fame. When he wasn’t loving on his grandchildren and family, you could find him fishing on any open water. Sammy was a hard worker who helped everyone. He also owned a business but recently retired from Lipsitz Metal Recycling in late 2013.

Sammy was a kind-hearted, loving man, wonderful father and extraordinary grandfather. If you were lucky to have known him, you will always remember his loving spirit, his gift for making everyone feel loved and his endless supply of donuts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anastacia and Arturo Fuentes, and his three brothers Arthur, Cecil and James “Jimmy”.

Survivors include his brothers Albert, Candelario, Seferino, Willie, his sisters Mary, Linda, Lydia, his children Bradley and wife Catherine, Tammie and husband Brian, his five adored grandchildren Anna, Emily, and Braden Fuentes and Miller and Bryce Cunningham.

Pallbearers will be Danny Fuentes, Doug Fuentes, Mike Fuentes, Rick Dashner, David Fuentes and Orlando Florez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Miller and Bryce Cunningham, Braden Fuentes, Steve Gaston, Jesse Gaston, Randall Covarrubias, Jerry Fuentes and Alfred Garcia.

The family would like to graciously thank Providence Hospice for their care and support and give special thanks to Benny and Judy for compassionately caring for Sammy. Most importantly, they would like to thank Albert and Vicki Fuentes for providing Sammy with extra loving care and support throughout his fight with cancer.
