Ernest Henry Dunn , 61, of Waco, Texas, passed away unexpectedly November 30th, 2021 at his home. Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 2 pm - 4 pm at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

A Life Well Lived
Ernest Henry Dunn was born in Glendale, California on July 7, 1960, at 4:00 pm to Floyd E. Dunn and Vanita Jo Rendhal Dunn. After his siblings, Bill, Bob, and Betty, Ernest was the final addition to his family. He and his family moved to Post, Texas where he attended Abbott High School.

In 1981, Ernest enlisted in the U.S Navy as an engineer. Over the course of 4 years, Ernest made two West Pac trips to Asia onboard the U.S.S England which was stationed in San Deigo, California. During his training in Groton, Connecticut, Ernest met Diane Marie Perry whom he would later marry on October 23, 1982.

Over the course of the next 13 years, Ernest and Diane welcomed in three children: Christopher, Jo Ann, and Sara, all while living in California, Texas and Rhode Island before settling permanently in Texas. Ernest was the very proud Papa of his 10 grandkids: Meghan, Zackary, Autumn, Emily, Trevor, Phoebe, Brett, Emilee, Daniel, and Christopher Jr.

Some of Ernest's happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren. Whether they were fishing, tossing tortillas at tortilla flats, baking cookies, or just driving home from school and getting snacks: the time they spent together was special. Ernest always said that each one of his grandchildren was his favorite one and that he loved them all the same.

Ernest enjoyed many things in life. He was a very spirited and outgoing man who loved to travel; exploring places he had never been before and meeting new friends along the way. He never met a stranger or anyone he couldn't talk to. One thing that everyone knew was that Uncle Ernie always had a story, and it was usually a good one. He was always willing to help anyone in need no matter who it was or what was needed.

Ernest loved doing what he considered God's work by visiting people in the hospital during their last days to bring them comfort and joy. Later in life, Ernest fulfilled the wish of his father by becoming an ordained minister; and with this, he found joy by bringing couples together before God.

Ernest's proudest moments were when he graduated from New England Tech with an Associate's degree from Oaksterdam University.

Ernest was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Bob Rendahl, and most recently, by his beloved wife, Diane, who passed away October 21, 2021.

Ernest is survived by his son, Christopher Dunn, and fiancé, Pearl; his daughters, Jo Ann Dunn, and her fiance, Jasmine; Sara Smith, and her husband, Kenneth; Ashley Vowel and her significant other, Adam; his brothers, Bill Rendhal and his wife, Terry, and Daniel Williams; his sister, Betty Ballard; and his grandchildren: Meghan, Zackary, Autumn, Emily, Trevor, Pheobe, Brett, Emilee, Daniel, and Christopher Jr. as well as many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, inlaws, and friends.

Ernest is leaving behind many treasured memories, family, and friends which he will be dearly missed by and whom were most important to him.
