Esther Bertha Groth
October 6, 1915 - August 21, 2010
Esther Bertha Groth, 94 a long time resident of Waco, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at her home. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday at Rosemound Cemetery with Chaplain Ron Hill with Bluebonnet Hospice to officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Esther was born on October 6, 1915 in Otto, Texas to Wesley Charles and Emma Antonio (Wolter) Groth. She was an active member of Third Street Baptist Church. She served as treasurer of the church for many years. Esther loved children and worked with them in Sunday School, and during the summer she worked in vacation bible schools throughout Waco and McLennan County with Mrs. M.M. Skinner. Her activities included gardening and writing poetry. She was an avid Reader and had a thirst for knowledge. Esther was a joy and inspiration to her family and many friends.
Esther worked as a Commercial Artist twenty years. Nine of those years in Eastland, Texas. While in Eastland she was a member of the Las Leales (the Loyal Ones) a federation of Woman's Club. She served as Secretary and participated in all the good deeds of the club. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, E.W. , Herman and Carl Groth, three sisters, Lydia Braswell, Edna Gaeke and Annette Warren, and a beloved niece, Jo Ellen McAnelly. She is survived by a brother Glenn Groth and wife Erline of Austin; three sisters, Agnes Morris of Dallas, Luella Arnold of Midland and Alyda Shiplett and husband Delona of Waco; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she adored.
