Evalyn Louise Barrett Mikesell died Friday, November 30, 2007 at a Temple hospital. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A. M. Monday, December 3, 2007 at Mart Cemetery.
She was born September 21, 1922 in Groesbeck, Texas to Erwol Marvin and Mary Elizabeth Briggs Barrett. She was the youngest and only girl of four children. Her early years were spent on farms in the Central Texas area.
She served as a nurse in the U. S. Nary in WW II. She and all three brothers served in the Armed Forces during WW II. After leaving the Navy, she returned to Waco to continue her nursing career.
She met and married Wesley Miller of Marlin on June 5, 1948. He died in 1963. Evalyn continued her nursing career for many years working in hospitals and doing private duty nursing. She especially enjoyed her tenure as a nurse at the Methodist Home for Children and as a house parent at the Corsicana State Home. Her final days and months were spent under Hospice Care at the VA Hospital in Temple. Prior to entering Hospice care, her daughter, Deborah Ann Miller-Cumbo and her husband, Bryan, had taken loving care of her at home for several years.
Her parents and two brothers, Jack and Roby E. Barrett, predeceased her.
She is survived by Deborah and Bryan; brother, John Barrett of Portland, Oregon; sister-in-law, Carol Barrett-Sedberry of McKinney, and several nieces and nephews including Karen Barrett-Lathrop and her husband, Bob, who were very special to Evalyn.
