Evelyn Maria Turnmire, 81, a loving mother and friend, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Jack Mullins and Elizabeth Graham Reeves officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video of her life will be shown during the visitation.
Evelyn was born January 13, 1927 in Germany to Wilhelm and Katharina (Kunkel) Mais. Even after she moved to America, she loved Germany dearly as her homeland and visited there often. In Waco, she was a well known hairstylist for many years. She was a member of Lakewood Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary 121.
Evelyn maintained a wonderful zest for life, always surrounding herself with her family and many friends who were always very important to her. She was the life of any event, whether it was dancing, camping, playing Scrabble, traveling or cooking.
Her cheerful, magnetic personality drew everyone to her immediately, and she loved having people around her to celebrate the good things of life.
She was a special mother and friend who will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle Turnmire, and a son, Michael Turnmire.
She is survived by a son, Randall Turnmire; daughters, Phyllis Foddrell and husband Grayson, and Penny Lacina and husband Frankie; sisters, Hilde Neumann, Karola Thomas, and Gerdi Graham; grandchildren, Cory Turnmire, Nathan Foddrell, Brittney Foddrell, Dennis Kahanek, Dustin Kahanek, and Kalin Davis; and two grand-grandchildren, Deanna Kahanek and Mason Turnmire.
The family gratefully thanks Texas Home Health Care and especially Cynthia for her special care; the many special people at Royal Manor Nursing Home, and the caring staff of Providence Hospice especially Wilda Sower.
