Fay Pidcock Hernandez passed away on June 20, 2022 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was born to John and Roxie Pidcock on October 19, 1937 in Osceola, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, June 23, 2022 at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, June 24, 2022 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Leonard officiating. Internment to follow at Rosemound Cemetery.
She graduated from Itasca High School in 1955, home of the Wampus Cats. After high school, she moved to Waco and began working at Wood Brothers as the book keeper, where she met her future husband, Pat Hernandez. He said he knew she was the one when he first saw her but couldn’t get the courage to speak with her. He finally told her he saw a little thread on her dress and pretended to get it off and the rest is history.
Fay worked at Cox’s for 25 years. She first worked in the ready to wear department but was then transferred to the gift shop selling dishware. She enjoyed playing with the new dishes as they came in and loved registering brides-to-be and made many friends while working there.
After Fay and Pat retired, they enjoyed a simple life such as cooking out, watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. They also enjoyed working outside, picking up pecans and planting hanging flower baskets.
Fay and Pat became members of The Church of the Nazarene after being invited by dear friends Joe and Pat Dobias. Unfortunately, covid limited everyone from attending church which they enjoyed. Fay loved singing the old hymns and anyone that knew her got to listen to her singing the harmony part of the song. Fay would sing with her cousin Billie at family reunions when asked and when she and her sister were young, they sang hymns on a local radio station.
Fay is preceded in death by her husband Pat of 65 years; both parents; and her sister, Yvonna.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Holcomb and husband, Chris, Judy Stone and husband, Clayton; granddaughter, Jessica Gilliam and husband, Michael; grandson, Jason Holcomb and wife, Allison, grandson, Clayton Stone Jr. and wife, Renee, grandson Ryan and wife, Morgan, Granddaughter Jeryn Theiss and husband, Ray, granddaughter Jordan, granddaughter Julia Schuble and husband, Henry; 13 great grandchildren, Mason, Maddox, Payton, Lexi, Ford, Jackson, Logan, Jack, Henry VI, Brock, Luke, Blair and Landon as well as numerous loved nieces and nephews.
Fay eventually passed away from Alzheimer’s but still remembered small things like planting marigolds in your garden to help keep bugs away. We will all miss her more than she’ll ever know but knowing she’s with Pat and family again gives us peace. She’ll always be with us in sprit.
We want to thank extended family for checking on all of us and our kids for being there for us. We also want to thank AMED Hospice and all the nurses at Carriage Inn in Lake Jackson, Texas. They all said she was sweet to the end.
