Florence Evelyn Barker, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery.
Florence Evelyn Barker was the daughter of John Gordon Hilley and Janie Moor Hilley, born October 25th, 1918. Always know as "Evelyn", she was a native Wacoan, educated in local schools, and Four C Business College. As a teenager Evelyn became a member of Columbus Baptist Church.
Evelyn was employed by Southwestern Drug Corp. for over 27 years as a Secretary. During World War Two, when her husband was stationed at Kelly Field, Evelyn was a Secretary at Brig. General M.F. Davis' Headquarters, at San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Phillip Barker in 1993, after 53 years.of
marriage, as well as their daughter, Janie Carol Gillette, of Evergreen, Colorado, in 1980, her
sister Mary Stoermer, her brothers Gordon and Lewis Hilley, as well as her parents.
Evelyn is survived by her beloved and devoted grandchildren, Lara Gillette, Denver, Colorado, Gene Charles Gillette, Brooklyn, New York; nieces, Jan Hilley, New York City, New York, Sandy Allie, Conroe, Texas, Stephanie Stoermer, Sacramento, California; nephews, Michael, Greg, and Gordon Hilley; and devoted and loyal caregiver, Shirley Luman.
