Franklin L. Cossey, 81, passed away on September 2, 2016 after an extended illness. A graveside memorial service led by Rev. Kevin Wieser will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday 5pm-7pm at OakCrest Funeral Home 4520 Bosque.
Franklin was born in Iowa Park, Texas. At an early age, his parents Frank M. Cossey and Juliebelle Erwin Cossey moved to Crosbyton, Texas, where he attended public schools. After high school, he attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville before transferring to Texas Tech University.
He was married in 1957 to Evelyn Cummings in Ralls, Texas. The couple moved to Waco in 1962. Franklin began teaching at Belton and Lorena schools before transferring to LaVega ISD in 1969, where he was the coordinator for the vocational education program. Franklin always enjoyed meeting up with former students as they worked in businesses throughout the community. After his retirement from LaVega, he worked for the McLennan Restitution Center as a job coordinator.
Until his illness, Franklin was an active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and of Bible Study Fellowship. He volunteered with Citizens on Patrol.
Franklin is survived by his wife Evelyn, his daughter CaSandra and son, Derek both of San Antonio. Also surviving him are his sister Bonnie Williams of Crosbyton, nieces and nephew, Judy Maze and Condie, V’Rhett Williams, Janna Williams, and a special friend, Louis Breeland. He was predeceased by Derek’s wife, Laura Bloxsom Cossey.
In lieu of flowers; the family requests that memorials may be given to Providence Hospice or Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.
