Franklin D. Tipton, 80, cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 24, 2013. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral, also in the chapel. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Frank was born December 8, 1932, to Frank and Mayme Tipton in Floyd, New Mexico. He was the first to survive of 6 children. At 13 years of age when his father became very ill, he went to live on a farm with his aunt, where they raised broom corn. He used the profit from his first year’s crop to buy land upon which to build a house for his mother and siblings. Soon after graduating from high school, he spent four years in the U.S. Air Force and attended Baylor University. He graduated from Baylor University with an accounting degree in 1959. After a long and distinguished accounting career, he went to work for Texas Employment Commission and retired in 1997.

Frank was a member of Highland Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon and usher. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and spent most of his adult years as a Sunday School teacher in various churches. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who could always be counted upon no matter what the situation was. His extended family was also very important to him. He was a hard worker and very skilled in many areas. One of his special spiritual gifts, among many, was serving others.

He married Marie Pickens on June 21, 1955 in the Chapel of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco. Along with Marie, his surviving children are a daughter, Kathe Tipton of Waco; a son, Dr. David Tipton of Long Beach, California; a daughter, Terrie Carlson and husband, Randy of Austin, TX; a son, Charles Tipton and wife, Robin of Waco.

His grandchildren include: Christa Holbert and husband, Chris; Casey Carlson and wife Whitney; Karys Tipton; Abigail Carlson; Ethan Carlson; and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Grace Holbert.

He is also survived by a brother, Wilburn Tipton and wife Shirley of Sweetwater, TX; a sister, Joyce Church of Humbolt, TN; a brother, Floyd Tipton and wife, Molly of Dumas, TX; and a cousin, Berna Deen Stephens of Roswell, NM, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom he loved very much.

Other caring survivors are two sisters-in-law, Martha Corley and Charleen Isbell, who he was just as close to as a brother.

Pallbearers will be Randy Carlson, Chris Holbert, Casey Carlson, Chuck Williams, Howard Wible, and David Erbe.

The family gratefully appreciates the compassionate care given by Crestview Manor nursing home and Scott & White Hospice.
