Garland B. Martin, Sr.
November 30, 1921 - February 20, 2010
Garland Bishop Martin, Sr., 88, of Waco, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Providence Hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at First Church of Nazarene, 6015 Cobbs Drive, with the Rev. Roger Huff officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Garland was born November 30, 1921 to Luther Bishop and Claudia Othelia (Ledbetter) Martin in Gonzales, Texas. He attended Houston area schools, then entered the U S Navy, serving from 1941-1945.
He married Clara Eugene "Jean" Miller in 1944, who preceded him in death in 1980. He married Grace Brooks of Temple in 1983, who preceded him in death in 2006.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; sons, Olan and Darrell; and step-son, Grant.
Garland is survived by sons, Garland Bishop Martin, Jr. and wife, Irene of Waco, and Bradley Kyle and wife, Juliet, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; daughter, Charlotte Carney and husband, Mitch of Richmond, Texas; step-daughters, Billie Piazza and Tony of Fort Worth, Judy Ross and Barry of Flower Mound; Dianna Cosper and Roy, of Temple; step-sons, Paul Brooks and Linda, of Temple; Nelson Brooks and Helen, of Temple; sister, Florene Williamson of Houston; grandchildren, Spencer Carney and Michelle Hoss of Houston; Lauren Martin of Waco, Craig Martin of Wyoming; and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
