Gene D. Bowlin, 75, of Waco, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 11, 2008. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 14 at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home. A memorial video will be shown during the visitation and prior to the funeral service.

Gene was born February 11, 1933 in Waco to Earl Bowlin and Timmie Meeks Bowlin. He attended Waco Public Schools and proudly served his country in the US Navy. He was based in Norfolk, VA. He traveled to several countries and Hawaii. He was on active duty during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. Upon returning home, he came back to his job at A&P Grocery Store. In 1957, he began employment with Owens-Illinois Glass Company and was employed there for 37 years retiring in 1993. In 1956, he married Evonne Craddock of Crawford. To this union were born two children.

Gene was a faithful member of Crestview Church of Christ. He was an avid sports fan and followed the University of Texas Longhorns in every sport. He often traveled to Austin to attend games. He also was involved with the Lake Air Little League baseball program for many years and coached during the years his son, Ron played. He was President of the Teenage League.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Gene is survived by his son, Ron Bowlin and wife, Lynn of Flower Mound; daughter, Sherri Phillips and husband, Kelly of Waco; two granddaughters, Alicia Bowlin and Allyson Bowlin both of Flower Mound; one great-grandson, Grayson Bowlin; one sister, Earlene Rhoads of Hurst; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Evonne.

The family would like to thank the staff of Caring Hearts and the staff of Lakeshore Estates for the love and care they showed Gene during the last few years.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Akin, Johnny Norman, Chris Oliver, Fred McNiel, Eddie Rhoades and Jerome Lehrman.
