George Frank Nance, 83, of Waco, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010, at a local nursing center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 9, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
George was born in Leon Junction, Texas on January 16, 1927 to Claude B. and Hettie Reed Nance. He spent his early years in Coryell County. A veteran of World War II, George served two tours with the U.S. Army in Germany during which he married Anneliese Schade. The couple raised two daughters.
George retired in 1982 from the U. S. Postal Service after 29 1/2 years as a letter carrier. George was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church, Baylor Masonic Lodge 1235, Scottish Rite Valley of Waco and Karem Shrine Temple.
George is a past member of the Order of Eastern Star where he held many offices. Following the death of his wife in 1976, George married Louise Carpenter in 1982. Being fond of music, George belonged to a group of musicians that entertained around Central Texas. George wrote and published an autobiography of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Grant Nance and Manuel Nance; a
sister, June Nance Bryant; and his first wife, Anneliese.
George is survived by his wife, Louise; two daughters, Carol Nance of Waco and Linda Smith and husband, Ronnie of Crandall; three grandchildren, Rolland Alford and wife, Sheila of Itasca, Neal Alford of the U.S.M.C., and Liese Barnard of Waco; and five great grandchildren, Emily and William Poulter of Waco, and Dominik, Skylar, and Taylor Alford, of Itasca.
He is also survived by three step-daughters, Melisa Rosser and husband, Jim of Waco, Robi Michael and husband, Larry of Chalk Bluff and CoCo Kasik and husband, Harry of Euless; 10 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a sister, Pauline Driggers and husband, Roland of San Antonio; two brothers, Edgar Nance and wife, Betty of Yuma, AZ and David Nance and wife, Dorothy of Waxahachie; and numerous family members and many friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Rolland Alford, Neal Alford, Kevin Michael, Cody Michael, Mike White, Bradley Grace, Markus Creech and Jordan Yandell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Leland Busbee and wife, Barbara, Mickey Thomas, and Jim Rayner of Nottingham, United Kingdom.
The family wants to thank the staff of Quality Care of Waco, Providence Hospice, Drs. A.W. Sudan and Charles A. Shoultz, Jr.
