OBITUARY
George E. Ragsdale, 85, longtime resident of Waco, passed away December 13, 2009 in the Olin E. Teague Veterans Hospital in Temple.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Mr. Ragsdale was born November 5, 1924 in Bennington, Okla. to Walter Eugene Ragsdale and Eliza Ann Garrard Ragsdale. He was very industrious and worked to help his family from a very young age. He received a diploma from Bennington High School and joined the United States Navy during WWII.
After his honorable discharge, he graduated from Hardin-Simmons University. He married Barbara Caroline Smith of Big Springs, TX on July 26, 1952 and later moved to Los Alamos, NM where he was employed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He later moved to Waco, TX where he was a Commercial Computer Programmer for the Rocketdyne Corporation. Additionally, George was a past Exalted Ruler of the Waco Elks Lodge.
He enjoyed doing volunteer socials for the Veteran's Hospitals in the Waco area. Hobbies he enjoyed were being an avid gardener and harvesting pecans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Caroline; his sisters, Lillie Mae Ragsdale Rush and Sue Ragsdale Hart.
He is survived by his brothers, Ward Eugene Ragsdale of Washougal, WA and Bill Ragsdale and his wife, Mona of Crystal, OK; sisters, Ethel Ragsdale Wise of Dallas TX, Betty P. Ragsdale Clark of Abilene, TX, Audie Ragsdale Wray and her husband, Virgil of Klamath WA, George-Ann Ragsdale Fann and her husband, Larry of Abilene TX, his brother-in law, Tracy Smith and his wife, Flo of San Antonio TX; his sons, Walter Ragsdale and his wife, Susan of Murphy, TX, John Ragsdale and his wife, Nancy of Carolina, Puerto Rico; his daughter, Denice Ragsdale Green and her husband, Tim of Seminole, OK; his grandchildren, Brandi Ragsdale Pettiford and her husband, Sean of Lewisville, TX, Travis Ragsdale and his wife,, Stacey of Plano, TX, Matthew Green and his wife, Dixy of Edmond, OK, Melissa Green Marcum and her husband, Jordan, of Edmond OK; his great-grandchildren, Zoe Pettiford of Lewisville, TX, Avery, Peyton and Cullen Ragsdale of Plano TX; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.
