George Simpson

George Ray Simpson, 88 of Lorena, passed away on May 23, 2024 at his home in Lorena.

Visitation will be at 9:30 am on Thursday May 30th at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

George was born in Waco, Texas to Homer Joel Simpson & Gladys Rose Snelson, on March 2, 1936. He was educated in Waco, Texas. George married Dorcas Ann Jordan on September 28, 1957 in Huntersville, NC. He worked as a truck driver for many years before becoming owner/operator at Simpson Sand & Gravel.

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict while serving in the Marines, where he received a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

George was involved in the Marine Corp League where he was awarded the Marine of the Year award in the HOT detachment, Department of TX Marines and the Southern Division Marine Corp League.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Sesters; and brother, Joe Gates.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorcas; son, George Simpson; daughters, Sandra (Mark) Mangum, Linda (Robin) Bolin, Darlene (Randy) Carney, and Gladys (Craig) Eilers; grandchildren, Dorcas (Buck) Johnson, Wesley (Brandi) Bolin, Robert (Shannon) Hale, Jessica Eilers, Jennifer Carney, Brandi Simpson, Joshua Eilers, Billy Simpson, Brandon Carney, and Jake (Jessica) Bolin; great-grandchildren, Alyssa (Travis), Kambriegh, Reese, Brooklyn, Presley, Noah, Adrian, Gabriel, Kaleb, and Evelyn; great-great grandchildren, Bexley, Bailor, Beckham and Brixxon; cousin, Shirley Glockzen; and nephews, Ricky, Bryan, Scott, and Zach.

Pallbearers will be Buck Johnson, Robert Hale, Billy Simpson, Jake Bolin, Wesley Bolin and Max Caldwell.

Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to EMS, Lorena Fire Department, Lorena Police Department & the McLennan County Sheriff Department.
