Gerald (Jerry) Ray Ellis, 51, of Waco passed away early Tuesday morning May 12, 2009, at his residence.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Mr. Ellis was born in Waco, TX on July 7, 1957 to Joe and Loyce Ellis. He married Donna Moore on June 5, 1976.
He started his career as a computer programmer and later graduated from McLennan Community College in 1993 with a nursing degree.
He also ran an online radio station he created in 2001 called Soft Rock Oldies that has listeners worldwide. He still receives emails everyday from fans, praising him for his choice of music on the station and the many radio playlists he had programmed.
He was loved by all he met and is remembered by his cute made up phrases that are still being used by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and even their friends. He was the greatest Husband, Dad, Papaw and Uncle Jerry anyone could have ever known.
There are no words that could express the impact the sudden loss of Mr. Ellis has done to all that knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father Joe H. Ellis, his father-in-law Ray Moore, brother-in-law Tim Moore, nephew David Moore and a special Aunt that was his mothers twin sister, Joyce LaVelle and husband, James LaVelle.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his: Wife Donna; Son, Jason Ellis of Waco and friend, Sarah Elstrod of Waco; Daughters, Shannon Jumonville and husband, Nicholas of New Bern, NC; and Carole Ellis of Waco. Granddaughters, Kristen and Kaylee Nichols of New Bern NC; Grandsons, Marcus and Joseph Ellis of Waco; Kaeden Ellis of Waco; and Logan Jumonville of New Bern, NC, Step grandchildren: Bradley and Emily Jumonville Mother Loyce Ellis; Brother Michael Ellis, and Sisters, Pamela Gray and her husband, Gary; and Linda Stroud and her husband, Danny; and his favorite uncle, Johnny Lowery and wife, Doris. Pallbearers will be: his nephews, Brian Gray, Jeffery January and Joey Gray; his cousin, Jimmy LaVelle; brother, Michael Ellis; and longtime friend of the family, Jim Guin. Honorary pallbearers will be James Conley and Jim Foster.
