Gerardo Castillo

Gerardo Castillo, 22, of Waco, Texas passed away on Thursday August 3, 2023. Gerardo’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday August 11, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Gerardo was born on June 4, 2001, in Waco, Texas to Alfonso and Porfiria (Gonzalez) Castillo. He attended Waco schools and graduated from University High School in the class of 2020. He attended Texas State Technical College and graduated in April 2022, receiving his associate degree of Applied Science in Electrical Linework Technology. He was an employee of Bobcat Contracting LLC, as an underground electrician. In his free time, he played saxophone for the band, La Nueva Ambicion Nortena, which he started along with his brothers and a family friend in 2016. He had an immense passion and love for music. Gerardo was the definition of a true musician. He played keyboard, bass guitar, bajo sexto, and saxophone. Gerardo played with his brothers, Luis and Jairo. He always volunteered to play for the festivals at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His gift of love was to play “las Mananitas“ on the feast day of “la Virgencita de Guadalupe”, he did it for four years. Gerardo had a great love for farm animals and helped his father, Alfonso with taking care of the cattle they owned as well as two rabbits. He had a big heart, and loved to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

He was preceded in death by; brother, Christopher Castillo; great grandparents, Gabina and Anacieto Castillo; aunt, Enriquetta Gonzalez; great aunts, Maria Ignacia Castillo, and Juana Castillo.

Gerardo is survived by his parents, Alfonso and Porfiria (Gonzalez) Castillo; brothers, Luis Castillo and Jairo Castillo; paternal grandparents, J. Apolinar Castillo and Maria Castill Arvizu; maternal grandparents, J. Carmen Gonzalez and Lidia Hernandez; aunts, Luisa Gonzalez, Maria de Jesus Gonzalez, Leonarda Gonzalez, Maria Martinez, Angelica Castillo, Francisca Castillo, Amalia Castillo, Marina Castillo, Teresa Castillo, and Victoria Castillo; uncles, Bernabe Gonzalez, Manuel Gonzalez, Esteban Castillo, and Matias Castillo.

Pallbearers are Roberto Martinez, Gelacio Martinez, Rolando Alejandro, Yancarlos Chavarria, Carmelo Escobedo, Alan Ramirez, Francisco Ortiz, and Guadalupe Gutierrez.

Gerardo was a very good son and a very caring brother.

Gerardo Castillo, de 22 años, de Waco, Texas, falleció el jueves 3 de agosto de 2023. La misa de entierro cristiano de Gerardo será el viernes 11 de agosto de 2023 a la 1:30 p. m. en la iglesia católica Sacred Heart y seguirá el entierro en el cementerio Oakwood.

Gerardo nació el 4 de junio de 2001 en Waco, Texas, hijo de Alfonso y Porfiria (González) Castillo. Asistió a las escuelas de Waco y se graduó de University High School en la clase de 2020. Asistió a Texas State Technical College y se graduó en abril de 2022, recibiendo su título de asociado en Ciencias Aplicadas en Tecnología de Líneas Eléctricas. Era empleado de Bobcat Contracting LLC, como electricista subterráneo. En su tiempo libre, tocaba el saxofón en la banda La Nueva Ambición Norteña, que inició junto con sus hermanos y un amigo de la familia en 2016. Tenía una inmensa pasión y amor por la música. Gerardo fue la definición de un verdadero músico. Tocaba el teclado, el bajo, el bajo sexto y el saxofón. Tocaba con sus hermanos, Luis y Jairo. Siempre se ofreció como voluntario para tocar en los festivales de la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón. Su regalo de amor fue tocar “las Mananitas” en la festividad de “la Virgencita de Guadalupe”, lo hizo durante cuatro años. Gerardo tenía un gran amor por los animales de granja y ayudaba a su padre, Alfonso, a cuidar el ganado que poseían y dos conejos. Tenía un gran corazón y le encantaba ayudar a cualquiera que lo necesitara.

Le precedieron en la muerte; hermano, Cristóbal Castillo; bisabuelos, Gabina y Anacieto Castillo; tía, Enriqueta González; tías abuelas, María Ignacia Castillo y Juana Castillo.

A Gerardo le sobreviven sus padres, Alfonso y Porfiria (González) Castillo; hermanos, Luis Castillo y Jairo Castillo; abuelos paternos, J. Apolinar Castillo y Maria Castill Arvizu; abuelos maternos, J. Carmen González y Lidia Hernández; tías, Luisa González, María de Jesús González, Leonarda González, María Martínez, Angélica Castillo, Francisca Castillo, Amalia Castillo, Marina Castillo, Teresa Castillo y Victoria Castillo; tíos, Bernabé González, Manuel González, Esteban Castillo y Matías Castillo.

Los portadores del féretro son Roberto Martínez, Gelacio Martínez, Rolando Alejandro, Yancarlos Chavarria, Carmelo Escobedo, Alan Ramírez, Francisco Ortiz y Guadalupe Gutiérrez.

Gerardo era un muy buen hijo y un hermano muy cariñoso.
