Glen Rose Callahan Shurtleff, of Waco, passed peacefully from this life on September 30, 2013 at Spring Oaks Nursing Home in Lampasas, Texas after a lengthy illness. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Western Heights Baptist Church with Kip Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Smith Cemetery in Lampasas County. Visitation with Glen Rose’s family will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

She was born Glen Rose Callahan on May 14, 1927 to Glen and Sadie Callahan in Elgin, Texas. In 1937, after the death of her father, she moved to the Masonic Home and School in Ft Worth where she lived and attended school. She attended Baylor University in Waco where she met and married the love of her life, Sam H. Shurtleff, Jr on September 7, 1947. Glen Rose was an active member of Western Heights Baptist Church for fifty years where she taught a Sunday school class and was active in the church choir for many of those years. She was also an active member of McLennan Chapter 639 Order of the Eastern Star, Merak Temple # 104 Daughters of the Nile, and The Masonic Home Ex-Students Association. She worked as a secretary, medical records librarian, and legal secretary for many years before retiring from the VA Regional Office in Waco. Glen Rose and Sam were former residents of the Lake Air Tower Condominiums for many years where she once served on the Board of Directors as Secretary.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2009 after 62 years of marriage; and a sister, Sadie Marie Callahan.

Glen Rose is survived by her son, Sam H. Shurtleff, III, his wife, Vicki; and two grandsons, James and Allan Shurtleff.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Western Heights Baptist Church in Waco or McLennan Chapter 639 Order of the Eastern Star.
