Glendon slipped his earthly bonds calmly, to don his heavenly robes and continue to serve his God and Savior as he was called Home on March 21, 2015. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Mexia City Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco.

As a young man, Glendon helped his parents manage the family farm in Leon County. As a teenager, he and his older brother ran the farm by themselves allowing his father to work in the Mexia oil fields to support his family. Glendon is a retired Navy Chief and a member of the Greatest Generation, having served in World War II in the South Pacific. In addition to his Naval career, he worked as a Civil Servant in the aviation field until his retirement. As a structural mechanic his talents enabled him to repair major aircraft damage, sometimes with only minimal equipment at hand. His public service to America has contributed to a safer America, and he will be greatly missed as a husband, father and public servant. Glendon served as a Mason, a Scout Master, and a Sunday School teacher, and served his local community in many different ways.

Glendon was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior and was a self-schooled Biblical scholar. Having been raised in and around Leon and Limestone counties as a young man he attended church all his life as a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church, Bellmead First Baptist Church, Lackland Baptist Church of San Antonio and Timbercrest Baptist Church of Waco.

He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous brothers and sisters and daughter-in-law, Cathlene.

He is survived by Athalee Hood DeZell, his loving wife of 70 years; sister, Datha Crutchfield; sons, Glendon Bruce DeZell of Houston, James and wife, Sheri DeZell of Waco; and daughter, Linda and husband, Dicky Hall of Katy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Derek and Shelbie DeZell, Victoria DeZell and Andre Robbins, James Matthew DeZell, Adam and Kristin Hall, Dr. Tracilyn Hall, Sayde Carlsen, and Cortney Carlsen; numerous great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wilma and husband, Seth Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Derek DeZell, James Matthew DeZell, Adam Hall, Kris DeZell, Quentin Spaulding, and Corley Alsobrook. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hugh Ford, Richard Hagar, Currie Bishop and Tom Adams.
