Gloria S. Romero April 3, 1926 – September 16, 2023
Gloria S. Romero, born April 3, 1926, in Rosebud, TX, peacefully departed this life at the age of 97. The daughter of Charley Asidro Sanchez, a diligent farmer, and Galita Cruz, a dedicated housewife. Gloria's humble beginnings in Central Texas defined her resilient spirit and unwavering work ethic.
Growing up on the farms of Central Texas, she developed a deep love for fishing and learned the trade of picking cotton. These simple joys and early experiences forged a character of strength, humility, and perseverance in Gloria, which she carried with her throughout her life and instilled in her children and subsequent generations.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Refugia Reyes and Helen Chavez; Mrs. Chavez’s children, Ausencio, Margarito, and Saragoza, survived by Alfonso and Alvina; her stepchildren, Frances and her husband, Vincent Gonzales, and stepson, Johnny Romero, survived by wife Mary (Nena) Romero.
Gloria leaves behind a legacy of love and a vast family. Survivors include her beloved children, Augustine and wife, Yolanda Romero, Gloria and husband, Lupe Martinez, Carol Vela and husband, David Veliz; ex-son in law, Jose Caraballo; stepchildren, Victoria and husband, Louis Fabila, Jesse and wife, Mary Alicia Romero, Geneva Romero, Pedro and wife, Evelyn Romero. The family's joy extends to 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the St. Anthony’s Care Center and Providence Medical Hospice team of Woodway, TX for their care, support, and compassion in making Gloria's final days comfortable.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jose Caraballo, Jonathan Caraballo, Ruben Vela Jr., Matthew Serrano, Wayne Gordon and Samuel Romero.
The family graciously requests flowers be sent to Oakcrest Funeral Home.
Services will be coordinated by Oakcrest Funeral Home. A viewing will be held on Monday, 9/18/23, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, 9/19/23, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
