Grace Mcfarland

Grace Jackson McFarland, 103, of Waco, peacefully passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at St. Catherine's Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009 at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Grace was born November 8, 1905 in Indian Territory (later known as Caddo, Oklahoma). She was the daughter of Lena Guess Jackson and James Jackson and was a citizen of the Choctaw Nation. She married J. C. McFarland in 1931 and together they had 4 children, Jaqueline, Jeanne, Michael and Patrick.

After raising her own children, Grace continued to give of herself and her love, helping raise her grandchildren. Always energetic and on-the-move, she loved traveling for pleasure and to visit family. She enjoyed a lifelong love of gardening, and always surrounded her home with beautiful flowers and plants. She was a voracious reader and also a poet. At the age of 70, Grace took up reupholstering, art and oil painting, leaving a respectable portfolio of her works. Until just recently, she was an active and creative cook, famed throughout her family for her ability to whip up from scratch a single serving of delicious soup. She continued until the very end to accurately complete the crossword puzzle in the daily newspaper with the exception of current celebrities and anything she referred to as "techie lingo".

Grace was preceded in death by her husband; son, Michael M. McFarland; daughter, Jaqueline R. Dahm; and son-in-law, David M. Dahm.

She is survived by her children, Jeanne R. McFarland and Patrick McFarland, both of Waco; grandchildren, Kelli Anderson and husband, Bruce of Oklahoma City, OK, Kathleen Smith and husband, David of Scottsville, VA, Anthony Dahm and wife, Kaoru of Vienna, VA, Jerusha Dahm and Jennifer Rausin, both of Los Angeles, CA, Alexander McFarland of Sacramento, CA; great-grandchildren, Luke Simpson, Evan Espinoza, Jenifer Haught, Spencer, Arthur and Andrew Dahm and Alexander McFarland, Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the gentle care and assistance provided by Providence Hospice and the nurses and statt of St. Catherine's Center.
