Grace LaChina Walters Scruggs, 95, of Waco, passed away December 8, 2007. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth with Pastor Scott Pace officiating.

She had been a member of First Baptist Church Granbury and De Cardova Ladies Golf Association. She was born September 13, 1912 in Colorado and moved to Ft. Worth at the age of 1. Grace was the youngest daughter of Sam L. and Fannie Belle Massey Walters. Grace married Robert Louis Scruggs on August 27, 1938 at the First Methodist Church of Denton.

She was employed by Retail Merchants Association, also known as Credit Bureau of Greater Fort Worth in Fort Worth, retiring in 1974 as Assistant Manager. She and her husband Bob then moved to DeCardova Bend, Acton, Texas.

Grace graduated from North Side High School in Fort Worth. She completed Management Development course for Credit Bureaus and Collection Service, received her diploma from Yale University, New Haven. Ct. in 1957 and later attended two refresher courses at the University of California at Berkley.

While in Fort Worth she was a member of the Travis Avenue Baptist Church, secretary of the Retail Credit Managers Association and life time member, secretary of the Charge-Plate Stores of Greater Fort Worth, member of the Women's Division of Chamber of Commerce, members of the Credit Women's International, and a member of Career Club.

Her hobbies included sewing-dressmaking, draperies, bed spreads and dolls, gardening, cooking, and baking for her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bob Scruggs; her parents, Sam L. and Fannie Belle Massey Walters; sister, Naomi Walters Dobson; brothers, Sam L. Walters Jr., William A. Walters, Fred M. Walters, and George A. Walters.

Mrs. Scruggs is survived by two nieces, Naomi Dobson Mangum of Waco, and Sharon Walters Bishop of Donalds, SC; three great nieces, four great-nephews, three great-great nieces and nine great-great nephews.
