Guadalupe “Lupe” Torrez of Plano, Texas was called home to the Lord on December 14, 2021 at the age of 81. She was born on June 6, 1940 to Jose Torres and Maria Veracruz Torres in Marlin, Texas. Guadalupe married Simon Torrez on July 15, 1960 in Waco, Texas. She worked as a social worker to resettle immigrants and in her local parish supporting hispanic ministries. Guadalupe was a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in The Colony, Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
Guadalupe will be most remembered for her warm contagious smile, laugh and welcoming presence. She never met a stranger. With arms opened wide, she made everyone feel comfortable and part of her family. She was generous, selfless, and always had time to listen. Her actions reflected her deep faith, treating others with love and compassion. Guadalupe absolutely loved gathering family and friends around a bountiful table to share great homemade meals, life, stories and laughter. She loved to celebrate, often planning meals weeks in advance. In her spare time, she used her creative talents to sew and crochet special gifts for her loved ones. Guadalupe loved God, time with her family and being in the company of others. Her bright light uplifted our lives and will remain in our hearts forever.
Guadalupe is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Deacon Simon Torrez; son, Hector Torrez; daughter, Carmen Castagno and husband, David, all of Plano, Texas; son, Marcus Torrez and wife, Melissa of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Elliott Torrez, Olivia Torrez, and Renee Castagno; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by son, Samuel Isaiah Torrez; parents, Jose and Maria Veracruz Torres; brothers, Jesse Torres and Jose Torres; and sister, Anita Moran and husband, Manuel.
The family will receive family and friends during a visitation on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North in Allen, Texas, 75013. Rosary service will begin at 6:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2021 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7000 Morning Star Drive, The Colony, Texas 75056. Reverend Joy Joseph, TOR to celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection.
There will be second visitation in Waco on Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, Texas 76710.
The graveside service, led by the Most Reverend C. Benjamin Magnaye, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 South Fifth Street, Waco, Texas 76706.
