Gus Niederer

Gus Albert Niederer, 95, devout Christian and life-long faithful member of Central Baptist Church, entered the life everlasting on January 26, 2006. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at OakCrest funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Enrolled in the Cradle Roll Department of Central Baptist as an infant, Albert was the son of Albert and Elise Niederer, who had left their childhood home in Switzerland in 1907 to reside and raise a family of six children in Waco, Texas. Albert married the love of his life, Freda Gummelt, on April 24, 1937, and devoted the next 68 years to her and their two children, Ray and Dorothy. His career as a skilled cabinetmaker spanned more than 50 years, with the last 31 years in the employment of L. L. Sams & Sons, where he built pulpits and other church furnishings. A perfectionist by nature, the excellence and attention to detail that he gave to his craft was admired by all of his colleagues. After his workday, Albert spent many hours gardening and caring for the extensive yard and fruit trees of the family home, resulting in lots of fresh fruit and vegetables for family and friends to enjoy. His exemplary life centered on his family and church activities.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Freda, in September 2005, his sisters Ella Marie Denney and Rose Reeves, and his brothers Bernie Niederer and Charles Niederer. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Ann Niederer of Waco; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Darryl DeBorde of Tulsa; grandchildren Deborah Saxon and husband, John, Colorado Springs; David Niederer and wife, Misty, Indianapolis; Donelle Enos and husband, Bryan, Tulsa; Dayna Avery and husband, Kevin, Waco; great-grandchildren, Megan and Peyton Niederer and Carter Enos; brother Jim Niederer and wife, Ella Marie, of Dallas; sister-in-law Jo Ann Niederer of Dallas; several nieces and nephews and dear friends of Central Baptist Church. He will be missed forever but his legacy lives on in our lives.
