Hannibal Curtis Tadlock, 98, of Waco, died Saturday, January 28, 2012. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Sharon Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with his family will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Mr. Tadlock was born June 29, 1913 in Brenham to Sadie Lemma Tadlock and Curtis Tadlock. He graduated from Marlin High School in 1930. He spent many years serving in the United States Navy where he was stationed aboard the USS Nevada. December 7, 1941, Mr. Tadlock was aboard the Nevada at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked and sunk by the Japanese. He was then stationed on the USS Lexington that also sank in the Coral Sea. In 1946, Mr. Tadlock was honorably discharged. In 1947, Mr. Tadlock joined the Waco Police Department and worked his way up to the rank of Sergeant and later as Sergeant of Records where he retired in December 1978.
H. C. will always be remembered as a very special person in the lives of many. He was well liked by everyone and was considered a legend among the officers with whom he proudly served. He served not only his country and his community with exemplary service, but since his retirement, he had given selflessly of his time to both family and friends. He was a man's man and a true American hero who will truly be missed and fondly remembered by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, J. D., Derwood and John Tadlock.
Mr. Tadlock is survived by his wife, Louise of Waco; daughter, Phyllis Wieser of Waco; son, John Tadlock of Waco; eight grandchildren, Vance Knowles, Carter Knowles, Stewart Knowles, Collin Tadlock, Paige Leonard and husband, Dan, Brittany Tadlock, Preston Chevalier and wife, La Tona and Nicole Chevalier; four great grandchildren, Garrett, Kaitlin, Peyton and L. J.
Pallbearers will be Vance Knowles, Carter Knowles, Stewart Knowles, Collin Tadlock, Preston Chevalier, Chris Colquitt, Jay Hummel, Brandon Wilson, John Tadlock and Bryan Tadlock.
Honorary pallbearers will be T. R. Taylor, Rowan Wood, Verdin Hill and all his long time coffee drinking buddies.
Memorials may be made to the Waco Police Association or to the charity of one's choice.
