Harlan O. Willingham, 87, of Waco, went to his eternal rest Thursday, June 10, 2010 at his home in Waco surrounded by his wife, JoAnn and loving family. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Gray officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Harlan was born August 20, 1922 in Gholson to Harmon Otto and Georgia Belle (Slough) Willingham. He married JoAnn Tipps in Waco March 4, 1950. Harlan was employed at C.F. Binner and Son Construction, building the Waco Drive Bridge, when he and JoAnn married. He retired from Waco Sand and Gravel after 50 years in construction as a dragline operator at the age of 72.
Harlan loved growing roses, fishing, planting and growing his vegetable garden, playing with his grandchildren and dancing with his wonderful wife of 60 years. He attended Patton Baptist Church in the Patton Community area and was baptized in Hog Creek at the age of 10. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Harlan is survived by his wife, JoAnn Tippps Willingham; sons, Mike Willingham and wife, Carolyn and John Willingham and wife, Donna; daughter, Elaine Hughes and husband, Dale; sisters, Opal Jones and Sally McMillian and husband, George; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Micah Willingham, Jimmy Willingham, Anthony Iafrate, Sam Perkins, Danny Ozment and Roland Bryant.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
