Harold Purvis
June 29, 1935 – November 16, 2008
Harold Torrance Purvis of Waco passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at his residence after a long brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Columbus Ave. Church of Christ with Dr. Thomas E. Bedichek officiating.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
He will be in state 12 to 5 p.m. Monday, at the OakCrest Funeral Home.
He was born June 29, 1935, in Waco, to Charles E. Purvis and Mamie Torrance Purvis. Mr. Purvis graduated from Waco High School and received a BA and an MA from Baylor University. He taught History and English in the Waco schools.
He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and a past president of George B. Erath Chapter, Sons of the Republic of Texas.
Mr. Purvis was a member of Columbus Ave. Church of Christ for 60 years, where he taught Bible classes and directed the song service for many years
He is survived by a brother, Charles E. Purvis Jr. of Waco; a sister, Mrs. Bill Burleson of Harris Creek; and two nieces, Patricia Duran of Temple, and Pamela Logan of Hewitt.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Norton, Jerry Price, Steve Mullins, David Anderson, Jim Moen and, Steve Downey.
