Harriett Kathleen Thatcher passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010 at Waco Memorial Park with the Rev. Brad St. Romain officiating.

Harriett was born August 22, 1920 in Merna, Nebraska to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hall. In 1924, the Hall family moved to California. For a short time, they lived in the Bakersfield area and then settled permanently in Ventura, a small city on the Pacific Ocean just 70 miles north of Los Angeles.

Upon graduation from school, Harriett married Floyd Thatcher on the 28th of August 1938. After a few months, they moved to the Los Angeles area. This was the beginning of a lifelong relationship in which each of their gifts complimented the other. Harriett spent several years in the religious book publishing world, and was the co-author in the development and writing the book entitled Long Term Marriage.

Throughout her adult life, she was active in church leadership roles in Southern California, Michigan and at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Waco. At St. Paul's, she served as President of the Episcopal Church Women, as Chair Person of St. Margaret's Guild, and a member of St. Paul's Guild. She was active on the Altar Guild and served on a Clergy Search Committee and for many years, she cooked for Meals on Wheels. Other community service included membership on the Evangelia Settlement Board. And while she was also an enthusiastic member of a bridge club, her central mission in life was to be a loving wife and mother.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Floyd.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherrill Colony and husband, Paul of Pasadena, California; granddaughter, Kristin Mitchell; grandson, Patrick Colony; great grandson, Connor Mitchell; and great granddaughter, Caroline Mitchell.

Memorials can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Waco, 515 Columbus Avenue Waco 76701.
