Herbert Patlis, 82, of Waco, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the St. Catherine's Nursing Center with his family at his side.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Rodef Sholom Cemetery with Rabbi Gordon Fuller officiating.
After the service, family and friends will gather at LaFiesta Restaurant, 3815 Franklin Avenue.
Herbert was born May 1, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, to Samuel Patlis and Rose Reich Patlis. Herb graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School and attended Pace Institute in New York. Herb proudly served as a Medic in the Navy during World War II.
Herb was associated with the Yellow Book Advertising Company in Long Island before retiring and moving to Waco in 1979.
In October 1979, Herb married Wanda Castillo, owner of LaFiesta Restaurants, in Waco and assisted her in operating the restaurants. Herb retired in 1991, but continued to be involved with the restaurant operations. Herb was a member of Congregation Agudath Jacob.
Herbert was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Herb and Wanda loved to travel, and enjoyed trips all over the world especially cruises and trips to St. Martin's Island. Herb loved to play golf, read, watch movies, and spend time with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A true sports fan, Herb faithfully watched the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. A special part of his life was his dog, Alfie, who he loved dearly.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Chris Castillo and step-daughter, Lisa Castillo.
Herb is survived by his wife, Wanda Patlis; son, Dennis Patlis; step-daughter, Vicki Castillo; step-son, Sam Castillo Jr.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Gerry Patlis and wife, Naomi of Scarsdale, NY; and two nephews, Jason and Howard Patlis.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons.
The family expresses gratitude to Providence Hospice and St. Catherine's Nursing Center for their love and care of Herbert.
