Hermila Villarreal Sanchez, 89, of Waco passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on July 3, 2024.
Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, July 8, at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be at 11 am, Tuesday, July 9, at the funeral home with burial to
follow.
Hermila was born on June 23, 1935, in Mission, Texas, to Severo and Victoria Villarreal. She married the love of her life, Porfirio Sanchez, on January 8, 1961, after he completed his time in the military.
She was a devoted mother to six children and took on these roles with integrity. Mila, as she was affectionately known by many, was also a teacher and role model who did all the necessary household duties without complaint while working as a seamstress for more than 30 years. She occasionally took on two jobs so that she could provide a little more for her children, setting aside her own wants. One of her favorite jobs was when she cared for her grandchildren and also the children of others. She loved her family and would do it all again if given the opportunity. Although she was not a woman of many words, her family always knew that they were loved because of the care she provided throughout their lives.
Hermila was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lidia Villarreal Rendon; and brothers, Sigifredo and Julio Villarreal.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Porfirio Sanchez, Sr.; children, Mario Sanchez; Porfirio Sanchez, Jr. and his wife, Julia; Norma Sanchez; Philip Sanchez; Victoria and her husband, Albert Rodriquez; and Delia Sanchez.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mikaella and her husband, Gregory Jarrett; Tiffani and her husband, Jeff Mateo; Breanna Sanchez; Leslie Sanchez; Joshua Sanchez; Austin Chapa and Jordan’Asher Sanchez; Julian, Victoria and Jonathan Rodriquez; and Kyrsten and Nevaeh Rivera; great grandchildren, Ahzius Sanchez, and Kaidence and Gurion Jarrett; and Elijah Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Sanchez, Austin Chapa, Julian Rodriquez, Jonathan Rodriquez, Rudy Hernandez and Paul Salinas.
While we will miss her greatly, we know that through Mila’s faith in Christ, she is rejoicing in heaven with the Lord. As we celebrate her life, we will be honoring her memory by wearing any shade of pink. Please feel free to join us in this act of love if you would like to do so.
The Sanchez family would like to thank Interim HealthCare and the nurses, nurse aids, social workers and chaplain for all their care and support throughout the last four years.
