Hilda Coss

April 8, 1922 — July 31, 2006

Hilda Coss

Hilda Dixon Coss, 84, was ushered into heaven on Monday, July 31, 2006 to dwell with the Lord forever. Her long battle with cancer is over and she is at rest.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am on Thursday, August 3, at the St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Patrick Adejoh as celebrant. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque, with the rosary being recited at 8:15 p.m. A memorial video honoring her life will be shown during the visitation.

Hilda was born in Kansas City, Mo., on April 8, 1922 to her mother Cecil Dixon and father Cai Pedar Buhl. The family moved to Dallas after graduation from high school.
She entered Baylor University School of Nursing at Baylor Hospital where she received an R.N. degree in 1943.

Shortly after graduation she entered the Army Nurse Corps where she was given the rank of 2nd lieutenant. It was during that time that she met and married her husband, Francis Coss. They had two children, Paul Coss and Judy Schroeder. Their first child died, Bruce Coss. Her family came first then her work and her dogs. In truth the dogs were part of her family.

She worked for Jack Flowers at the childrens' clinic for many years, followed by Waco ISD as a school nurse where she retired from. She loved volunteering at Providence Hospital working at the switchboard more than anything. She made many friends. She will be remembered as a great wife, mom, grandmother, and friend.

Many special thanks to Sheena Dickson who sat with our mom every day in her remaining days; to our dear friend Marilea Whitte who helped care for mom; to Providence Hospice nurse Judy Smith who we thank for her kindness and special care and friendship; to the people of Providence Pulmonary Rehabilitation where she exercised every week and Michael, Andy and Dee who said "You can do it" and she did.

Pallbearers will be Will Schroeder, Lindon Endsley, Mike McClendon, Ricky Berrier, Earl Perryman, and Bobby Dunlap.
