Horace Bushnell

Horace Elmer Bushnell, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on October 28, 2008.

The funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 31, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. David Story and the Rev. Michael Goacher officiating.

Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring his life will be shown during the visitation and at the service.

Horace was born November 16, 1918, in Waco, Texas to Douglas and Alice Bushnell. His sister was Bettie Bledsoe. Horace was united in marriage to Vivian Pryor on November 29, 1945. They were married almost 63 years. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years.

He retired from McLennan County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff and he was an active member of the Heart Of Texas Amateur Radio Club.

Horace is survived by his wife Vivian; daughters, Linda Smith and husband Tony of Belton, and Jane Strittmatter and husband Paul of Ft. Worth; grandsons, Mark Goacher of Lewisville, and Michael Goacher of Lake Forest, California; granddaughter Sarah Strittmatter of Ft. Worth; and great- granddaughter, Megan Goacher of Temple.

Pallbearers will be Mark and Michael Goacher, James Zimmerman, Tommy Matthys, Dr. Robert Pryor, and John Westmoreland.

Since Horace was a beloved, long-time member of Richfield Christian Church, the family requests that memorials be given to Richfield Christian Church, 4201 Cobbs Dr., Waco, Texas 76710.

The family would like to express special thanks to Bluebonnet Home Health and especially to Hillcrest Hospice for their loving attention to Horace.
