Hugh Garland

Hugh Clark Garland, Jr.
August 28, 1944 – June 24, 2012

Hugh Clark Garland, Jr., 67, of China Spring, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Providence Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of China Spring, 301 Illinois, on Thursday, June 28 at 11 am with Rev. Michael Copeland officiating. Burial and graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with his family will be from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, June 27 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

Hugh was born August 28, 1944 in Waco to Hugh C. Garland, Sr. and Jackie Garland. He made the Waco area his home for life. While riding bulls in local rodeos, Hugh met the love of his life, Gladys Ann Grumbles. They were married April 27, 1965 at Calvary Baptist Church. Hugh proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Marine Corp. Shortly after leaving the USMC, Hugh went into business with his dad at Waco Patrol Service. They expanded the business by buying A-1 Ambulance, where Hugh was the General Manager. Upon his retirement, Hugh was President of Waco Patrol Service.

Hugh had a passion for the outdoors, whether it was boating, hunting, or ranching. He spent many hours at his ranch outside Cranfills Gap developing an outdoor experience his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews could enjoy. As much as Hugh enjoyed all of his outdoor activities, his real love was for his family. His 47 year adventure with Gladys Ann blessed them with three wonderful children and five loving grandchildren who were the foundation for his fondest memories.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Clark Garland, Sr. and his sister, Jane Grant.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Gladys Ann; daughters, Stacey Siebert and husband Martin of Katy, Jackie Brewer, and husband Robby of China Spring; son, Grant Garland and Alisha of China Spring; mother, Helen "Jackie" Garland of Waco; brother, Joe Garland and wife Kim of Orlando, FL; uncle, Bob Garland and wife Darilene; and the five grandchildren he adored, Garland Siebert, Clark Barlow, Ali Barlow, Griffin Siebert and Scarlett Garland.

In lieu of floral arrangements, the family requests that any memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church of China Spring.
