Ida Mae Starnes
May 13, 1931 – August 4, 2007
Ida Mae Starnes, 76, of Waco passed away peacefully Saturday. A celebration of her life will be held 10 am Tuesday August 7, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday.
Ida was born May 13, 1931 in Turkey, Texas to James Elbert Collins and Nelma England Collins. She grew up in Pampa and gave her life to Christ at age 8 in a small church in Dickens. She met her husband Joe, a handsome humorous Air Force military police officer, in Midland. They married September 19, 1953 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. The family moved to Waco in the early 60's. Ida was employed by Bealls Dept. store for 10 years. At age 57 she earned a degree in Horticulture and Floral Design from Texas State Technical Institute. She and Joe retired to Hewitt in 1991. She was a member of Hewitt First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Starnes and sister Neva Hale.
Ida is survived by her children Marsha Daughtry and husband Mike, Pam Laine and husband Scooter, Bob Starnes and wife Gayle, Beverly Russell, Nancy Glasscock and husband Greg of Temple, and Kimberly Starnes. Brothers Dan, James and Ricky Collins and sister Gladys Overby.
Grandchildren Steve and Philip Daughtry, April Laine, Bradley Starnes, Marielle and Melanie Russell; great grandchildren Jase Ayala, Kamryn Hanna; special friends Ginny Kellogg of New York and Loraine Davis of Waco.
The Starnes family extends a special thank you to Dr. Robert Anderson, Dr. Donald "Buck" Cross, Dr. Samuel Ralston, Dr. Rodney Richie, and numerous others within the Hillcrest medical network who assisted in her care.
Ida was a devoted wife, loving mother, adorning memaw and caring friend. Her favorite book of the Bible was Matthew. She served her Lord unconditionally and her family unselfishly her entire life. For this, her children rise up and call her blessed. We will affectionately carry her memory forever in our hearts. Rest in peace dear sweet mother, we shall meet again.
