Jack Brooks

Jack Adolf Brooks, 85, passed away peacefully on May 16 in Houston, Texas. He was born September 5, 1926, one of two children, to Adele Rabel Brooks and Thomas Jesse Brooks in Waco, Texas. Jack graduated from Waco High and attended Texas A&M, where he delayed graduation to serve his country in the Navy during WWII. Upon graduating in 1948 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he moved to the Dallas area, received his Professional Engineer (PE) license in 1954, and began working for the Carrier Bock Company. In 1971, Jack teamed up with two fellow engineers to open Masters Engineering. He later started his own business in 1975, opening Brooks Engineering, which later became BMS Mechanical. In all, Jack was in the mechanical contracting business in Dallas for close to six decades, closing the doors at BMS Mechanical in 2009. He was a member of ASHRAE, the Air Conditioning Contractors Association in Dallas, and donated his time to the Shriners. Jack thoroughly enjoyed the contracting business in Dallas, but most of all he enjoyed the friendships and acquaintances he made along the way. He was an avid hunter and loved being in the outdoors.

A loving father, brother and uncle, he is survived by his 3 children: Lisa Brooks in Austin, Laurie Brooks Luck and her husband David in Cypress, Russell Brooks and his wife Laurie in Waco, and his 5 grandchildren, John Luck, Larry Luck, Randy, Luck, Jessica Brooks, and Jacob Brooks. Jack lived a long and full life and left a good legacy. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S. 5th Street, in Waco.

Flowers can be sent to Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque, Waco, Texas 76710, or in lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the charity of your choice.
