Jack Peck

Jack Nestor Peck went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 16, 2010. He died peacefully in his sleep. He spent his last day surrounded by his wife, his children, grandchildren, his brother and sisters, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Highland Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 19th for all whom knew Jack and want to join in the praise and worship in celebration of his life and his arrival Home. A private burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery prior to the service.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 18, in the chapel at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Mr. Peck was born to Lucille Herbert Peck and John Nelson Peck on April 11, 1919 in Nashville, TN. He was reared from early childhood in a loving Christian home by his parents Lucy and Ernest Richards, in Detroit, MI.

He married Evelyn Jackson Sep. 24, 1938. They spent most of their 59 years of marriage in Waco. During their years of marriage, they gave birth to four children. Evelyn went to be with her Lord June 30, 1998.

Jack became a Christian at an early age and followed his Lord faithfully all of his adult life. He served the church in various capacities including Bible teacher and deacon. He served as an elder for 5 years in Bethesda Bible Church and 15 years as elder in Highland Baptist Church.

He came to Waco in 1944 serving in the Army Air Corp. After being discharged, he returned to Waco in 1946, and went to work for Grimland Brothers Mfg. from 1946 - 1948. On April 1, 1949 in partnership with Wallace H. Rusch, he started Mercury Tool and Machine Service, which was incorporated in 1960 to Mercury Tool and Machine, Inc.

In subsequent years along with various partners, he began several other companies. He continued as CEO of Mercury (which still remains in operation) until his death.

Jack loved life to the fullest with special interests in sailing, hunting, and flying. He was also an avid Go-Kart racer along with his family. He and Mr. Rusch built Waco's first Go Kart track in 1958.

In his latter years as a widower, he collected old Mustangs and acquired a young wife (quote from Jack Nestor Peck!). He and his second wife, Gloria Gillenwaters, a friend of many years, were married April 19, 2003. They had seven wonderful years together.

Mr. Peck is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children; Richard Peck and wife, Frances; Jack Peck and wife, Peggy; daughter, Janice Braswell, and husband, Bill; son, Bob Peck; brother, Herb Richards and wife Lola, Sisters, Phylis Dengler and husband Bill, Jeanie Kitterman and husband Larry, and Virginia Trate, daughter in law, Lana Peck; plus 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Purselley, Tom Hill, Ken Orton, Speedy Wible, Brad Peck, Timothy Peck, Derek Braswell, and Sonny Love. Honorary Pallbearers are Les Dupuy, J.B. Owen, Bob Painter, Kent Northcutt, Randy Crawford, Walter Seeger, Norman Hoffman and all the current and former employees of Mercury Tool.

The family wishes to give a very special thanks to Dr John Speckmiear, the Doctors and staff at Waco Cardiology, and the wonderful staff at Waco CHF Clinic for the extra special love and attention, which gave Mr. Peck the extra quality time with his family. Also a special thanks to the 6th floor staff at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for the extraordinary compassionate care given to Mr. Peck and the family during his final days.
