Jack G. Spather, 87, of Waco, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2013. Services will be at 2 pm, Saturday, July 27 at the OakCrest Funeral Home.
Jack was born in Rochester, New York on November 7, 1925, the son of George D. Spatharis and Lucille Mosier Spatharis. A long-time resident of Springfield, Ohio, Jack graduated from Ohio State University.
He served in the U. S. Army, and after his military service, he enjoyed a successful career as a Senior Computer Programming Analyst. Jack worked several years for RCA, later taking a position with Western Union, where he remained until his retirement in 1986.
Upon his retirement, Jack became a resident of New Braunfels, Texas, where he served as a Senior Retired Volunteer with the New Braunfels Police Department from 1991 until 2004, when he moved to Waco.
Jack Spather is remembered fondly by his former wife and best friend, Bonnie (Thelma) Spather; his nephew-in-law and niece, Jim and Mickey Mitchell and their family; stepsons, David Shackelford and Tim Shackelford; niece, Gabrielle Day; and cousins, Jill Clintworth and Jan Reynolds.
Jack's fine mind and agreeable nature will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
